2019 WTA Dave Weldy Academic/Vocational Scholarship


Since the inception of this program, over 235 scholarships totaling more than $160,000 have been distributed to deserving applicants. Annual grants of $500 to $2000 for academic and vocational scholarships will be awarded by the Washington Trucking Associations to eligible students who are related to an employee of a current WTA member. The scholarship fund is sponsored by the Suppliers Conference of the Association. All proceeds from the Frank Riordan Memorial Golf Tournament and the WTA Eastside Golf Classic are donated to this scholarship fund.

Scholarship Eligibility: Applicant must be a graduate or graduating senior of a Washington State high school, who is currently a Washington State resident and is the child, grandchild, niece or nephew of an employee of a current WTA member in good standing. 

Selection Criteria: Applicant must include his/her academic achievements, education and career goals, demonstration of leadership, level of financial need, performance of community service, and employment record. Preference will be given to applicants who plan to work in the Transportation Industry. 

Applicants may submit an application for either an Academic Scholarship or a Vocational Scholarship (depending on their educational goals), but not both. All applications must be received at the WTA office no later than close of business on Tuesday, April 30, 2019

The scholarship review board will review the applications and recipients will be notified the week of May 30, 2019. Recipients of Merit Scholarship Awards may use funds to attend accredited colleges or universities, community colleges. Recipients of Vocational Scholarship Awards may use funds to attend a trade school offering training in Diesel Mechanics, Truck Driving, or other transportation related trade.
